Overview
A DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) unit is a compact clarification system used to remove fats, oils & grease (FOG) and suspended solids (TSS) from industrial wastewater. It is commonly installed as pretreatment to protect downstream biological treatment, reduce load, and improve overall plant stability.
In a DAF system, a portion of clarified water is pressurized and saturated with air. When released into the flotation tank, microbubbles attach to fine particles, oils, and flocs and lift them to the surface, where a surface skimmer removes the floated sludge. Depending on wastewater characteristics, DAF performance is typically enhanced using coagulation and flocculation (pH correction, coagulant, polymer).
